Individual Therapy

People seek individual therapy for a range of reasons.

  • Dealing with past hurts or traumas.
  • Challenges with relationships, parenting or work-life.
  • Adjustment to changing life situations, losses and griefs.
  • Support in managing challenging thoughts, feelings or behaviours.

Therapy usually happens in 50-60 minute appointments, spaced weekly or fortnightly. During your first appointment/s, I aim to understand your most immediate challenges, your strengths and your hopes for progress in the future, as well as relevant life experiences. This understanding will keep developing over the course of therapy and much depends on the development of a comfortable rapport.

I use a range of techniques including Schema Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and EMDR. All of these approaches carry a clear evidence-base and are best-practice treatments.

You may qualify for a Medicare Rebate under the Better Access to Mental Health Scheme. Ask your GP to complete a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which can be used to claim a rebate of up to $136.35 per session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

Alternately, NDIS funding, private health insurance, WorkCover or EAP may help with the cost of therapy.
